He attended the Berea Bible seminar in Germany, where he studied to become a pastor / missionary. He emigrated with his wife Kristina to Zambia in 1970. Amongst other things, he served in the leadership of a bible college and travelled throughout the country visiting churches, in his missionary service.

In between, Traugott Hartmann acted as an agricultural expert and worked in development projects under Zambian, German and EU funding. During this time, he was also engaged in pioneer missionary work on an honorary basis.

In the Christian Community Church, whose infrastructure he helped to develop, he acts as a representative for the partner church in Germany, the Mülheimer Verband.

In May 1998, Traugott and Kristina Hartmann called the BOCCS AIDS-orphans and school project into life, and opened the first school in "Buyantanshi."

Kristina Hartmann, with her background training in administration, theology and nursing came to Zambia in 1970 as a missionary, together with her husband Traugott. She is especially engaged in women's ministries in the Christian Community Church, the partner church of the MV. Having worked in and founded several ministries, she acted as the first Coordinator of the BOCCS AIDS-orphans and school project between May 1998 and March 2001.
