Meal program at BOCCS

Once a day, almost all students at BOCCS receive a warm meal. Currently, about 3,700 meals a day are being served once a day in all eight BOCCS schools.

All children of grades one to seven, and all AIDSorphans of grades eight and nine take part in the meal program.

The meal consists of Nshima (corn meal) and cabbage. Alternatively, other side dishes such as different vegetables, beans, fi sh or beef are served. The meal is prepared on site in a kitchen shelter or outdoors on charcoal- or log-fi res by a group of hired cooks.

The meal program became necessary, because the majority of the children from the compounds suffer from malnutrition. Futhermore, it is the ideal complement to the sponsorship program. It allows us to give local families, who take in a sponsored child (AIDS-orphan), a monthly compensation for their food expenses. Then, the sponsored child and all the other children of that family can go to one of the BOCCS schools. On top of that, all children at BOCCS daily receive a warm meal.
